From Basic to Brilliant: How We Transformed the Trentham Spudfest Website

Not every website needs to be built from scratch. Sometimes the best results come from digging into what's already there and doing the work properly.

That's exactly what we did for Trentham Spudfest, one of the Macedon Ranges' most loved community events, and a perfect example of what a focused website optimisation can achieve.

The Reality: The Site Wasn't Working

Let's be real. The original website wasn't doing what it needed to do.

The original website wasn't doing what it needed to do. It was barely functional on desktop and practically unusable on mobile. The volunteer committee couldn't update it effectively themselves. And for an event that relies on ticket sales and community engagement, that's a real problem.

Here's something Kelly says to every client who comes to us with an underperforming site: your website is your most valuable digital asset. For an event like Spudfest, it's the front door to everything. The program, the stallholders, the atmosphere, and most importantly, attendance. If that experience is broken, you're losing people before they even get to the gate.

We've worked with community groups and not-for-profits across the Macedon Ranges for years. Tight budgets, volunteer committees doing their best, websites that were fine five years ago but haven't kept pace. The good news is you don't always need to blow the budget on a brand new site. Optimising what you've already got can deliver just as much impact, sometimes more.

KGMG Creative works across Wix, Squarespace and Shopify. We know these platforms inside out, which means we can move quickly, optimise properly and get results without unnecessary cost or complexity.

What We Actually Did

We sat down with the Spudfest committee, understood what the site needed to do, and rebuilt it properly. Not just a visual refresh. A genuine rethink of functionality, flow and purpose.

▶︎ Complete UX Rethink

We redesigned how people move through the site. Simple navigation. Clear information. A fast path to tickets. If someone's hunting around for more than a few seconds, you've already lost them.

▶︎ Refined Visual Direction

We cleaned up the layouts, created proper visual hierarchy and made sure every element had a purpose. No more content competing for attention. Everything now leads users exactly where they need to go.

▶︎ Cohesive Brand Application

Typography, colour palette, imagery and tone were unified across every page so Spudfest feels recognisable and consistent. Consistency builds trust, and trust drives action.

▶︎ Enhanced Visuals

Photos, videos and galleries were added where they didn't exist before. Less clutter, more impact. The result is a site that feels as vibrant and welcoming as the event itself.

▶︎ SEO and GEO optimisation

We restructured content, fixed metadata, improved load times and made sure the site was properly visible in both traditional search and AI-powered search tools. Better rankings, faster performance, more eyes on the event.

▶︎ Mobile-First Responsiveness

Most visitors were hitting the site from their phones, and the old version was failing them. We rebuilt it mobile-first so it works beautifully across every device.

▶︎ Knowledge Transfer

We spent time with the committee showing them how to manage and update the site themselves. A website should make your life easier, not create a new dependency.

The Result? A Site That Actually Performs

This is what happens when you optimise with purpose. Strategic, built around real people, and genuinely effective.

You don't need a huge budget to have a website that works. Whether you're running a not-for-profit, a local business or a community event, the right optimisation can completely change what your site delivers.
