Case Study: The Cosmopolitan Hotel Trentham

Built circa 1866, The Cosmopolitan Hotel has been sitting proud on the corner of High Street and Cosmo Road in Trentham for the better part of 160 years. Locals know it. Visitors seek it out. It is one of those regional venues that earns its reputation through what it actually delivers.
But four years ago, its digital presence told a very different story. A two-page website the team could not update. Almost no social media activity. No photography that did the venue justice. A historic, award-recognised hospitality destination that was, effectively, invisible online.
The Cosmo deserved better. Here is how we got there.
The client

The Cosmopolitan Hotel is a historic pub, restaurant, events venue and accommodation destination in the heart of Trentham, in the Macedon Ranges and Hepburn regions of regional Victoria.
Under owner Rod and manager Fee, the Cosmo is built around a single philosophy: eat, drink and love local.
The seasonal menu draws from the region's finest producers. The cellar celebrates local wine, beer and spirits. The gardens, the Stables, the Cellar and Store, and The Cosmopolitan Cottage together make it one of the most complete hospitality offerings in regional Victoria.
The situation before KGMG Creative
When Rod and Fee first sat down with Kelly and Matt, the brief was clear: everything needed attention.
A two-page website that the team could not update, with out-of-date content throughout
Almost no social media activity and no strategy behind what little existed
No optimised Google Business Profile or active directory listings
No professional photography or videography to represent the venue
No way to communicate consistently with their community or reach visitors and tourists from Melbourne and beyond
The Cosmo had no shortage of things to showcase: a seasonal menu, private functions, weddings, events, live music, local wines and produce, luxury accommodation. The problem was not the offering. It was that none of it was visible, communicable or findable in any meaningful digital way.
What started as an initial conversation has become one of KGMG Creative's most enduring client partnerships.
What KGMG Creative delivered
The Cosmopolitan Hotel is one of the clearest examples of what a full-service relationship with KGMG Creative looks like in practice. Every service is in play, and every service feeds every other.

A fully custom website built to communicate everything the Cosmo has to offer.
Kelly built The Cosmopolitan Hotel a complete custom website, designed around the way a guest, tourist or function enquiry actually thinks and searches. Accommodation, food and beverage, weddings and functions, events, the Cosmo's history and story: all of it given proper space, proper content and proper structure.
The site is built with SEO and GEO foundations from the ground up, making The Cosmopolitan visible in both traditional search and AI-powered tools like Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT. The events and news blog keeps the site active and current. Content is updated regularly so the website always reflects what is actually happening at the venue right now.
Full-service social media management across Meta and Google Business Profile.
Matt leads strategy and content for The Cosmopolitan's social media across Facebook and Instagram, with a monthly content calendar built around the venue's seasons, events, menu changes and community moments. Copy, graphics and photography are all produced in-house by the KGMG Creative team.
The result is a consistent, cohesive presence that reflects the Cosmo's genuine character, grounded in the community it serves and the experience it delivers.
Professional photography and videography by Nic.
Nic shoots The Cosmopolitan Hotel regularly, across both planned content shoots and specific campaigns. Food and beverage, seasonal atmosphere, events, venue spaces, weddings: all shot with a brief that goes well beyond taking nice photos.
Every image is designed to work across the website, social media, Google Business Profile and third-party listings simultaneously. One shoot. One brief. Every channel covered. That is the strategic approach Nic brings to every client and it is what makes the photography investment go significantly further.
Google Business Profile: actively and consistently managed.
For a hospitality venue drawing guests from Melbourne and beyond, Google Business Profile is often the first thing a potential visitor sees before they ever reach the website. KGMG Creative manages The Cosmopolitan's GBP with regular posts, updated photography, accurate business information and active management of the listing throughout the month. Consistency is what makes local search work, and local search is what drives new visitors through the door.
Email marketing: monthly database communications.
Monthly mailouts cover events, promotions and venue news, aligned with the social media calendar so every channel is telling the same story at the same time. The subscriber list has grown significantly under KGMG Creative's management, turning email from an afterthought into one of the Cosmo's most direct and reliable channels for driving bookings and event attendance.
Print materials, graphic design and ongoing support.
Beyond digital, the KGMG Creative team produces print materials including menus and event collateral for the venue. Chris leads graphic design execution across all print and brand materials. Everything is produced in-house, so brand consistency runs from the website through to what a guest picks up at the table.
The results
Four years of consistent, joined-up strategy shows up consistently in the data.
Organic website traffic has grown significantly and consistently year on year since launch
Website sessions have grown dramatically compared to the original two-page site
The email subscriber base has grown substantially, making it one of the venue's most effective direct marketing channels
Social media reach is up, enquiries across all channels are consistently strong and brand awareness has grown well beyond the immediate Trentham community
Live music bookings have grown from an occasional offering into a regular, established part of the Cosmo's programme
Wedding bookings are increasing
The business maintains strong visibility and enquiry through quieter winter months because the digital presence is working hard enough to keep momentum when foot traffic naturally drops
That last point matters more than it might seem. For a regional hospitality venue, the ability to maintain visibility and enquiry through quieter seasons is often the difference between a good year and a difficult one.
In Rod's own words

"Kelly, Matt and the KGMG team came recommended to us and we clicked right from the start. Everything from our web design, social media, design, Google presence and photography have been actioned to the highest quality. And the best bit: they are down the road, hands-on and a lot of fun to work with."
Rod, Owner, The Cosmopolitan Hotel, Trentham
Why this works: one team, one brief, everything connected
The Cosmopolitan Hotel case study illustrates something that is easy to describe but harder to execute: what happens when every part of a digital presence is genuinely joined up.
The website drives search visibility. Search visibility drives discovery. Social media builds the audience and keeps the community engaged. Email converts that audience into bookings. Photography feeds every channel simultaneously. GBP makes the venue visible to anyone searching locally or asking an AI tool for a recommendation. A consistent monthly strategy keeps all of it moving in the same direction, every month, regardless of the season.
When these elements are managed by separate providers with separate briefs, they pull against each other. When they are managed by one team who talk to each other, share a brief and understand the business from the inside, they compound.
That is the KGMG Creative approach. And the Cosmo is one of the clearest examples of what it looks like over the long term.
Is your venue as visible as it deserves to be?
If you run a restaurant, pub, winery or events venue in the Macedon Ranges, Daylesford region or regional Victoria and your digital presence is not doing justice to the experience you offer, let's have a conversation.
