Wow, we are just blown away by how fast 5 months has passed us by in 2019.
Phones & in-boxes at KGMG have been running hot, and the consensus from our network tells us that we aren't alone!
While we have still peppered in a few inner Melbourne projects, we are just in awe of the creativity and entrepreneurship of the Macedon Ranges locals that we've met and collaborated with in this first half of the year. The remarkable trend that we are noticing is the emergence of more and more youth-based services in education, mental health and general wellbeing. Watch this space as we are looking forward to jumping on board to work with some amazing socially minded programs such as Read Victoria, Uke 4 Kids & Youth Live 4 Life to name a few.
Where KGMG has been able to offer the most assistance for social enterprises like these has largely been from a marketing role. To put it into less corporate terms, what we're really looking to do is defining the "why", uncovering the unique narrative and then sharing it!
For the most part the process starts with a catch up over coffee, but these initial conversations are an absolute treasure trove of engaging tales of the journey so far, trials & tribulations and real life experiences. It's incredible how many operators have never told their story and how useful it can be with a little bit of crafting & marketing savvy.
After all is said and done, it's rarely just a product that will grab people's attention,
it's a narrative about "people like us" that really resonates.
KGMG Family Profile: T.O.M.S. The Organic Meat Specialist
We love the variety of collaborations that we're lucky enough to be a part of, but every now and again a project comes up that is just a pleasure to work on from start to finish. This has absolutely been the case with Tom & Jane Niall of T.O.M.S. and Proper Basics.
The Woodend couple started their organic butcher at the South Melbourne Market back in 2007 with a view to change the way we think about where our meat (and food in general) really comes from. While that message in the wrong context can come across as "preachy" or elitist, you really couldn't come across more humble operators.
Tom and Jane manage to proudly fly the flag for sustainable produce in the most approachable & informative way possible.
Their stall at South Melbourne Market is just one wing of their organic empire, lining the shelves are a range of condiments, sauces & ready made meals personally prepared by Jane in her commercial home kitchen in Woodend. Jane cites that "the PROPER BASICS range of take home meals was imagined up after feeling there was a lack of good-for-you, organic, no nasties, PROPER take home food".
And it doesn't even stop there with these two! The couple utilise their kitchen space further by offering catering services, cooking classes and even butcher masterclasses! We really couldn't be more excited about what the future holds for T.O.M.S. & Proper Basics.
The whole KGMG team feel lucky to have been able to showcase everything they do and what makes them so special via their new website.
Make sure you "do yourself a flavour" and check them out!
